Technical guide

Compare protective dry-press molded fibre with refined wet-press parts before choosing the surface, tolerance and tooling route for a custom insert.

01

The forming route should follow the job of the insert

Both routes form fibre into three-dimensional parts, but they do not create the same surface, definition or cost structure. The decision begins with product protection and pack-out, then considers whether the insert is hidden, presentation-facing or both.

02

Dry-press is a practical starting point for protection

A natural dry-press route is often suitable for shipping trays, hidden fitments and protective inserts where fibre texture is acceptable. Product contact points, wall transitions, rib strength, dust tolerance and nesting still need to be specified around the actual item.

03

Wet-press supports a more refined visible surface

A refined wet-press route can create a smoother presentation face and clearer edge definition for cosmetics, electronics, gifting and other visible inserts. Appearance requirements, colour tolerance, moisture exposure and tooling need to be agreed before quote and sample approval.

04

Compare the routes against the complete specification

Do not select a route from appearance alone. Review product weight, fragile zones, cavity depth, dimensional tolerance, surface standard, expected quantity, outer box, packing workflow and delivery conditions together.

These are selection principles, not fixed material guarantees. Final construction is confirmed from the product, tooling route and approved sample.
